Location and History

Located in the Helderberg Valley, Annandale benefits from a rich history and an ideal terroir for red wine production. The farm's origins trace back to 1688 when it was granted to Jan Wismaar by Simon Van Der Stel, originally named Brakelsdal. The scenic landscape is characterized by rolling hills and views of the majestic mountains surrounding it, creating a serene environment. After working at Alto for four years, fifth-generation winemaker Hempies Du Toit established his presence in 2000, bringing a wealth of experience to the farm. Annandale boasts vineyards that thrive on high-quality soils ideal for cultivating excellent grape varieties, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemaking philosophy here embodies a commitment to tradition, utilizing tried and tested methods that highlight the unique qualities of their grapes. The farm is admired not only for its historical significance but also for its dedication to maintaining high standards in winemaking, which has resulted in numerous awards accolades, including the prestigious GRAND PRIX D ‘HONNEUR for a 1984 Cabernet Sauvignon at Vin Expo in France.
