Location and History
Reaching the farm involves travelling through Wellington along Church Street before turning onto Slanghoek Road, where a short gravel road leads to the entrance. Rather than being an inconvenience, the final stretch encourages visitors to slow down and appreciate the breathtaking mountain scenery that surrounds the valley. The farm's beautifully restored 1700s shed, expansive dam and lush green lawns create an atmosphere that reflects the rich agricultural heritage of the region. As the day draws to a close, Arauna Farm reveals its greatest charm. The setting sun disappears behind the Groenberg Mountains, casting a golden glow across the tranquil dam and fragrant lavender hedges. In those peaceful moments, the farm becomes more than a destination—it becomes a place to reconnect with nature, savour traditional farm hospitality and escape the demands of everyday life.
Wine Tasting
One of Arauna Farm's most remarkable claims to fame lies far beyond the Cape Winelands. Since 2004, the farm has supplied the non-alcoholic sparkling wine used during the podium celebrations at the Bahrain Grand Prix, and more recently, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Owner Bernus van der Westhuizen recalls receiving an unexpected request when the Prince of Bahrain began searching for a premium non-alcoholic sparkling wine for the Formula One event. With only eight weeks to prepare, Bernus assembled an order consisting of three 3-litre bottles, twelve 1-litre bottles and several smaller bottles before shipping them to Bahrain. He also enjoys sharing the story of an interview in which Michael Schumacher remarked that while traditional champagne celebrations often leave drivers feeling sticky, Arauna's sparkling wine left a refreshing fragrance instead.

Restaurant
The farm restaurant captures the essence of traditional country hospitality. Renowned for its hearty Sunday lunches, the kitchen serves wholesome meals prepared with the comforting flavours of home cooking. Generous main courses and delicious homemade desserts are enjoyed against the backdrop of the Wellington Mountains, making every meal as memorable as the surroundings. Whether gathering with family or friends, visitors are treated to warm hospitality and an authentic farm dining experience.

Beyond the restaurant, Arauna Farm offers plenty to explore for visitors of all ages. Wide open spaces allow children to run freely, while the large farm dam provides an ideal spot for family fishing. A highlight of the farm is UHU Leather, where genuine leather products are handcrafted with exceptional attention to detail. From wallets and handbags to jackets, knife sheaths and other accessories, the shop showcases an impressive collection at surprisingly affordable prices. The distinctive aroma of quality leather greets visitors upon entering, while Elmarie, who manages the store, enthusiastically shares the history, craftsmanship and inspiration behind many of the unique pieces.
Adjacent to the leather shop, the farm deli celebrates local produce by offering fresh fruit and vegetables grown on the property, freshly baked bread, homemade treats, antiques and distinctive crockery that are seldom found elsewhere. Browsing the deli is an experience in itself and provides the perfect opportunity to take a piece of the farm home.
