Location and History

Situated in the picturesque Breedekloof Wine Valley, Botha Kelder benefits from the region's diverse terroir and ideal climate for wine growing. The winery was established as a co-operation on February 8, 1949, with just 14 founding members. The first harvest occurred just one year later, yielding an impressive 3,386 tons of grapes, despite the cellar being under construction. By 1952, the winery celebrated its official opening after three successful years of harvesting. Over the past 72 years, Botha Kelder has sustained growth and success, driven by a deep-rooted passion for wine. The area is characterized by mountainous terrain and fertile alluvial soils that contribute to the rich flavors and quality of the wines produced here. Botha Kelder has received numerous accolades, including awards from the National Young Wine Show and the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards, exhibiting their commitment to excellence in winemaking.

Wine Tasting

Guests visiting Botha Kelder experience a diverse and exciting wine tasting menu. The tasting room showcases an array of wine options, including the popular Amyah Chardonnay, Amyah Chenin Blanc, and Turoc Unify 2019. The winery offers curated tasting experiences, such as Fiesta and Kiddies Cookie Tasting, designed to cater to various palates and preferences. Cheese platters complement the tasting, featuring a selection of cheeses and meats ideal for sharing. Visitors can walk in for tastings, although pre-booking is recommended for larger groups. The tasting room, open Monday to Saturday, allows guests to connect with the winemaking process, exploring the thoughtful craftsmanship behind each wine. Botha Kelder is proud of the unique flavors produced from their vineyards, emphasizing the importance of local terroir in their wines.
