Canetsfontein

Winery Description

Location and History

Nestled in the scenic Bovlei Valley of Wellington, Western Cape, Canetsfontein boasts a rich history dating back to 1781, when it was acquired by Jacobus Pienaar. The farm shifted its focus to wine production in 1815 under Anna Lategan, who expanded into vineyards alongside fruit farming. In 1994, the Falk family transformed it into a sustainable organic agricultural estate, blending winemaking with the natural landscape. The farm spans 700 hectares with 25 hectares dedicated to organic grape growing since 2021, featuring hand-harvested grapes sourced from three vineyard areas. The diverse terroir includes varying soil types such as Tukulu, Oakleaf, Glenrosa, and Vilafontes, which contribute to the distinct characteristics of their wines. Located at altitudes between 180 and 310 meters, the farm is surrounded by the striking Hawequa Mountains, providing a beautiful backdrop for its flourishing ecosystem, which nurtures indigenous flora and fauna. Canetsfontein serves as a pristine destination for those wishing to explore the beauty of the Cape Floral Kingdom amidst its rich agricultural heritage.
