Grangehurst Winery

Winery Description

Location and History

Situated on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, Grangehurst Winery benefits from its prime location in the renowned Stellenbosch region of South Africa. Founded in 1992 by Jeremy Walker, the winery has established a reputation for producing high-quality handcrafted red wines and a distinctive dry rosé. The estate originally housed a former tennis and squash court, which has been transformed into the main tasting venue known as 'The Pavilion.' Here, guests can savor a selection of wines while enjoying panoramic views that stretch from Cape Point to Table Mountain. The unique terroir of Stellenbosch, characterized by its diverse soils and Mediterranean climate, contributes to the complexity and richness of the wines produced at Grangehurst. The vineyard, featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, and Shiraz, uses grapes sourced from local farms as part of a philosophy emphasizing quality over quantity. The winery's commitment to traditional winemaking practices, along with a fusion of experience from both local and international backgrounds, ensures a consistent standard of excellence for every vintage.

Wine Tasting

Each tasting session typically includes a complimentary bowl of olives, dried fruit, crackers, and still water to enhance the experience. As part of the winery's mission to celebrate quality craftsmanship, the tastings emphasize the intricate flavors and aromas that characterize each wine. The winery has received accolades for its premium wines, with particular praise for the meticulous methods used throughout the winemaking process, including hand-harvesting and fermentation in open vats.
