GREAT HEART Wines

Winery Description

Location and History

Founded in 2020 by Andrea and Chris Mullineux, the Great Heart Winery focuses on sustainable and ethical farming practices. Great Heart Wines is a winery 100% owned and run by the employees of both the Mullineux and Leeu Passant wineries who directly profit from the wine sales and see the shareholders involved in all the stages of the viticulture and winemaking. Their Wine Boutique is situated at Le Quartier Français on Huguenot Street in Franschhoek.

Great Heart winemaker Gynore Hendricks, a graduate of the Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme, crafts wines from vineyards in Swartland, Stellenbosch, and Elgin. These regions contribute to wines with remarkable natural intensity, complexity, and a strong sense of terroir. The winery operates with a minimal intervention philosophy, which enhances the characteristics of the different regions from which its grapes are sourced. The winery also strives to support the local community, with all operations benefiting its employees who are directly involved in viticulture and winemaking.

Wine Tasting

At Great Heart Wine Boutique, the wine tasting experience is intimate and tailored, with tastings available daily, but a reservation is advised. Guests can enjoy personalised sessions where knowledgeable staff guide them through a selection of unique wines crafted from grapes sourced from local vineyards. Each tasting accommodates up to four guests but can be extended to larger groups of up to twelve with advance notice. The outside terrace is great for warmer days and can also accommodate larger groups.

Visitors learn about the various cultivars and blends available, with insights into the winery's winemaking philosophy and sustainable practices. With a focus on creating memorable experiences, the boutique provides an opportunity for guests to engage closely with the wines and their stories, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Franschhoek valley.

Wines at Great Heart include Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
