Hasher Family Wines

Winery Description

Location and History

Spanning 180 hectares, Hasher Family Estate features vineyards, a production facility, and diverse fauna and flora of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Frederik and Céline Hasher, originally from Belgium, oversee all operations on the estate, where they live with their three children. Céline’s uncle and his wife assist them with their own knowledge and support. The estate is managed by a small but dynamic team that shares the family's winemaking philosophy.
At Hasher, they believe in low-impact farming to let the grapes tell the story of the terroir. The focus is on rejuvenation rather than high yield, with organic management principles and regenerative farming practices to improve fruit quality. In the cellar, they practice minimal human interference, using French oak barrels from Burgundy for fermentation and maturation, allowing the fruit to express its true character.
The goal is to respect the terroir and let the grapes shine. The estate is committed to sustainability, having joined the WWF Conservation Champion program. They dedicate 53 hectares to wildlife preservation and use game cameras to monitor animal movement.

Wine Tasting

Inspired by their surroundings, they produce high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir and cool climate. Their limited release wines include the Nauticus Sauvignon Blanc, a blend of different vineyard sites, offering complexity with a balance of citrus, white fruit, and a lingering salty finish. The Marimist Chardonnay comes from vineyards rooted in decomposed granite soils. This wine features lime, citrus blossom, and peach, with a light oak influence that reflects its terroir with the influence of the ocean and mist. The Batrachella Pinotage shows beautiful character and flavour with minimal interference during production. Named after the owners first born son, the Ernest Pinot Noir is a true representation of Pinot Noir from the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, with strawberries, cherries, and a sense of salinity, offering a vibrant density and elegant tannins. Cyriel Cabernet Franc gets picked at optimal ripeness, this wine reflects its terroir with a true and honest character, benefitting from the cool and wet winter months and warm, dry summer conditions.
