Winery Description

Location and History

The name Landskein is drawn from an old and mostly forgotten Gaelic word, describing the interweaving of horizon lines, where overlapping horizon lines appear to create a visual effect of interwoven and braided lines, especially on hazy days.

Kleinrivier is a 165-hectare farm with 50 hectares currently under vineyard. Tariro Masayiti is the winemaker at Landskein, and as co-founder and director, he leads their operations from vineyard and farm management to wine making and brand building. Previously winemaker at Springfontein and Nederburg, Tariro brings with him a wealth of knowledge and creates wines that reflect their terroir while focusing on regenerative viticulture and conservation.

Wine Tasting

The bottom part of the farm consists mainly of shale soil, while decomposed granite covers the majority of the farm, with quartz soil towards the mountains. Landskein currently produces five wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, a wooded Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Petit Verdot. Their Cap Classique, made from Pinot Meunier, will be released in November.

Restaurant

The estate welcomes visitors to The Parlour, where wines can be enjoyed alongside salads, sandwiches, cheese boards and a variety of wine and food pairings, as well as snacks like biltong and olives. A wider selection of drinks, including fresh juices and coffee, is also available. The amphitheatre has been extensively renovated and restored, and will host shows and events during the summer months. Also on the farm is the well-known restaurant Zesty Lemon, serving breakfast and lunch in a relaxed and tranquil setting with indoor and outdoor seating.
