Landskroon & Survivor Wines

Winery Description

Location and History

Nestled on the slopes of Paarl Mountain in the heart of the Western Cape Winelands, Landskroon Wines has a rich history rooted in generations of passionate winemaking. For five generations, the De Villiers family shaped the character and heritage of Landskroon, building a legacy of wines made with passion, purpose and a deep connection to the land.

In 2025, Landskroon entered a new chapter under the ownership of the Retief family of Van Loveren Family Vineyards. Building on the foundations of its proud heritage, the Retiefs bring a renewed vision, energy and courage to the brand. Today, Landskroon honours where it comes from while looking boldly towards the future. From its earliest owners to the generations who tended these vines with patience and skill, courage has always been a defining value. Today, that courage continues to shape Landskroon — staying true to its values, daring to adapt and welcoming new stories to the table.

From the De Villiers to the Retiefs of Van Loveren, courage is a crown earned through persistence, craftsmanship and generosity. It is a symbol of what happens when you work the land with vision and share its rewards with open arms. The crown is now Landskroon’s signature — representing courage, deep roots, quality craftsmanship and a welcoming spirit, reflected in wines known for their consistency, value and character.

Landskroon’s winemaker, Fanie Geyser, initially earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Psychology before following his passion for wine and studying Viticulture and Oenology at Stellenbosch University. His career later took him from Landskroon to Calitzdorp Cellar in the Klein Karoo. Nineteen years after leaving Landskroon, he returned as its winemaker, bringing his career full circle.

Landskroon is also home to Survivor Wines. Launched in 2015, Survivor Wines takes its inspiration from the resilience of South Africa’s Nguni cattle and the diverse terroirs of the Cape. The story began in 2009 when a Nguni cow escaped from a truck en route to auction and, against the odds, found her way into a Swartland vineyard, where she was discovered grazing on Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Named Survivor, her remarkable story later inspired the wine brand. In 2025, Survivor Wines opened its new home in southern Paarl, where visitors can enjoy its wines alongside the renowned offerings of Landskroon Wines.
