Lanzerac

Winery Description

Location and History

Nestled in the stunning Jonkershoek Valley, Lanzerac Wine Estate boasts breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and rolling vineyards. Established in 1692, it is one of the oldest farms in the Stellenbosch region, originally known as Schoongezicht by its first owner, Isaac Schrijver. The estate's history is rich and storied, with the transformation of the homestead into a luxurious manor house that exudes both contemporary elegance and classic Cape Dutch architecture. Throughout its history, Lanzerac has passed through numerous influential owners who have each contributed to its development and reputation as a premier wine producer. The homestead was transformed into a manor house in 1959 – reminiscent of the traditional French way of fusing a country hotel and wine estate. Today the iconic property hosts an elegant 5 star country hotel, acclaimed bars, restaurants and deli, a traditional tasting venue and a chic day spa. The estate continues to thrive under the leadership of a dedicated team focused on producing high-quality wines that reflect the character and terroir of this exceptional region.
