Lievland Vineyards

Winery Description

Location and History

Nestled in the heart of Stellenbosch, Lievland Vineyards embodies a rich history dating back to 1865 when a historic manor house was established on the farm. The name 'Lievland' translates to 'Loveland' in Afrikaans, reflecting the vineyard's charm and allure. Set at the foothills of the Simonsberg mountains, the farm enjoys a north-facing slope at approximately 300 meters above sea level, which allows for the cultivation of quality vineyards. Over the years, the estate has transitions through various owners, each contributing to its legacy in wine production. In 2017, the estate was revitalized by MAN Family Wines, under the stewardship of founders José Conde and Tyrrel Myburgh, who fell in love with the farm despite its dilapidated state. They have worked diligently to restore the vineyards and uphold Lievland's tradition of producing stellar wines, while paying homage to both its historic roots and pioneering spirit.

Wine Tasting

Visitors to Lievland Vineyards can enjoy an immersive wine tasting experience at the tasting room, where a selection of wines showcases the terroir of the region. The winery specializes in Cabernet Sauvignon, with wine sourced from the estate vineyards and select sites in the nearby Paarl region. The fertile Malmesbury Shale soils contribute to the complexity and fruitfulness of the wines, while aging in French oak barrels adds structure and elegance. The Bushvine Pinotage is a standout offering, made from two bushvine vineyards, exhibiting vibrant cherry and raspberry flavors, accentuated by a well-integrated tannin structure. Additionally, the Old Vine Chenin Blanc provides a refreshing contrast with notes of white peach and citrus, making it a delightful pairing for light dishes. These quality offerings illustrate Lievland's commitment to classic winemaking practices that ensure each sip reflects the landscape's unique characteristics.

At Lievland Vineyards, visitors can enjoy culinary delights at the Lievland Cafe, which offers a varied menu designed to complement their wine offerings.
