Winery Description
Location and History
Situated in the picturesque town of McGregor in the Robertson Wine Valley, McGregor Winery was established in 1948. In 2019, discussions between McGregor Winery and Roodezandt Co-operative led to a shared vision for growth and collaboration, and Roodezandt RF was established in 2020. Roodezandt is a key producer of large-scale cultivar wines, supplying quality bulk wine and juice to leading local and international brands. With annual production approaching 10 million litres, the wines reveal the individuality of each terroir, offering a broad spectrum of flavour profiles and minerality. Roodezandt draws on diverse terroirs, from the slopes of the Riviersonderend Mountains to the three river valleys, with vineyards planted at altitudes ranging between 200 and 350 metres above sea level. Twenty farms contribute grapes, with vineyards averaging 15 years of age and producing between 12 and 15 tons per hectare.
Wine Tasting
Visitors to McGregor Winery can enjoy a variety of wines, including Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage. They also produce a Calcrete Chardonnay, an unwooded Chardonnay, made from grapes that grow in limestone/calcrete soils, showcasing the unique terroir of the Robertson Valley. The tasting room is designed for comfort and warmth, featuring a free-standing fireplace that creates a cozy ambiance during colder months. On warmer days, guests can enjoy their tastings on the spacious lawn, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Restaurant
McGregor Winery offers an ice cream and wine pairing, featuring Bitter Soet’s handcrafted ice creams, paired with five carefully selected wines. Flavours include Grenadella, Turkish Delight and Coffee. There are kids’ ice cream and grape juice pairings available too. Guests may also browse a selection of deli items and assemble their own platters,
