Meerhof

Winery Description

Location and History

The winery is situated on the R46 just outside Malmesbury in the picturesque Riebeek Valley, a region known for its rich agricultural land and stunning landscapes. Established in 1751, Meerhof Private Cellar initially served as a gathering spot for friends and family to enjoy Riebeek Valley hospitality. It has since transformed into a well-regarded wine farm, producing award-winning wines. The vineyard is meticulously cultivated in shale and quartz soil, which creates an ideal terroir for the growth of its diverse grape varieties. The original landowners, the Kotze Family Trust, began planting vines in the estate in 1751. Under the ownership of Koos and Erik Jansen van Rensburg since 2001, the transformation into a wine estate was fully realized. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes sustainable practices and careful management of vineyard yields, ensuring high-quality wine production that celebrates the unique characteristics of the region.
