Saronsberg

Winery Description

Location and History

Saronsberg Cellar is located in Tulbagh, nestled in South Africa's Upper Breede River Valley. The area's unique topography is defined by the surrounding mountains, which provide a stunning backdrop for the vineyards. The terroir includes medium-deep soils developed from Pre-Cambrian age Malmesbury shale, perfect for grape cultivation. The proximity to the Atlantic coast influences the local climate, leading to warm Mediterranean summers and cool, wet winters. The estate's history traces back to around 1710 when grape cultivation began, granted to its initial owners after the governorship of Willem Adriaan van der Stel. In 2004, the official winemaking journey commenced, focusing on environmental sustainability and social responsibility. These principles are integral to Saronsberg's operations, contributing to a commitment to producing high-quality wines while nurturing the land’s natural beauty.

Seasonal cheese boards and light snacks are available for purchase, creating a perfect complement to the tastings.
