Springfield Estate

Winery Description

Location and History

Nestled in the picturesque Robertson Valley, Springfield Estate boasts a unique terroir characterized by rocky, sandy soils and a climate with mild summers and cold winters. The vineyard, planted east to west, is strategically positioned to maximize the beneficial effects of natural breezes. The estate has been family-owned since 1898, established by descendants of French Huguenots, and continues to follow their philosophy of producing wine with integrity. The winery operates under the motto 'Made on Honour' and ensures a hands-off approach, allowing the grapes to express their natural character fully. The Brandvlei dam, built in 1908 by local farmers, secures a consistent water supply for irrigation, ensuring the vineyards thrive in the challenging environment. As a proud advocate of sustainability, Springfield Estate dedicates itself to producing wine that reflects the land and heritage while embracing modern winemaking techniques.
