Stellenzicht

Winery Description

Location and History

Stellenzicht’s winemaking legacy dates back to 1692. After a period of dormancy, the farm was revived in 2017 with a focus on sustainability and heritage. Located on the slopes outside Stellenbosch, its ancient soils - once deemed “too rocky for crops” - now prove ideal for producing terroir-driven wines. During the estate’s rehabilitation, Acheulean hand axes were discovered, linking the land to early human activity and inspiring the creation of the Acheulean Range. Today, the estate remains committed to regenerative farming, reintroducing indigenous flora and fynbos while restoring natural balance to the land.

Wine Tasting

Stellenzicht’s wines are expressions of its unique terroir, appealing to lovers of both classic and New World styles. The flagship Acheulean Range pays tribute to the estate’s ancient origins. Sustainability is a guiding principle: Syrah vines are grown using cuttings from the original award-winning block, and vineyards are carefully matched to soil types to enhance natural balance. Dragonflies, sensitive indicators of ecosystem health, symbolise the estate’s pursuit of harmony in its vineyards.

Restaurant

The Wine Pod is Stellenzicht’s distinctive tasting room - an eco-friendly structure nestled in the natural landscape, offering sweeping views of the Helderberg and Stellenbosch mountains. Built with 80% recyclable materials and perched lightly on the land, it invites guests to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere while sampling the estate’s wines alongside wood-fired pizzas and platters
