Theuniskraal

Winery Description

Location and History

Theuniskraal winery finds its home in the stunning Winterhoek Valley, surrounded by the magnificent Witzenberg and Winterhoek Mountains. This exquisite location is characterized by its high altitude and diverse microclimates, which create ideal conditions for vineyard cultivation. The farm's history traces back to 1927 when the Jordaan brothers took over and began establishing a winemaking legacy. In the 1940s, under the leadership of Andries Jordaan, the farm began producing substantial quantities of wine sent to London. Notably, their Riesling debuted in 1948 and secured a gold medal at the Commonwealth Wine Show, marking a significant milestone. Today, the estate strives to maintain the tradition of quality winemaking, with the next generation of the Jordaan family carrying on this heritage. With 140 hectares of vineyards, varietals such as Cape Riesling, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon thrive in the carefully tended soils, benefitting from traditional methods coupled with modern technology in their cultivation practices.
