TTT Cellars

Winery Description

Location and History

TTT Cellars, located in the scenic Little Karoo town of Calitzdorp along the R62, has been owned by Graham and Cheryl Anley since August 2020. TTT stands for "Things Take Time," reflecting the patience required in wine production and the value of waiting for good things.

TTT Cellars was the brainchild of the late Ashley Mason and his wife Pat. After completing a garagister's course, Ashley set up his garage and made wine. His efforts grew, and the garage soon became too small. The Masons then purchased the land next door and built a wine cellar to accommodate Ashley's growing business. The winemaking went from strength to strength, and Ashley produced some very good wines and port-style fortified wines, for which he won several awards.

After Ashley passed away, the cellar remained unused for three years until Graham and Cheryl Anley discovered it in August 2020 on a visit to Calitzdorp. Enchanted by the property and looking to retire from their real estate franchise in Plettenberg Bay, they saw this as an opportunity for a new lifestyle in the Klein Karoo.

The Anleys embraced a natural farming philosophy, improving the soil with organic fertilisers and mulch, resulting in healthier vines and a doubled harvest. They practice minimal intervention during the cultivation process of the vines, olives, and fruit trees, using organic and biodynamic methods, such as covering crops between vineyard rows to enhance soil biodiversity.

Wine Tasting

The property boasts a thousand vines of Portuguese varietals, including Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barocca, Souzoa, and Muscat D’Alexandria. They produce a small quantity of port-style fortified wine, Hanepoot, and a Touriga Nacional dessert wine from these. The balance of the wines are made from local grapes sourced in and around Calitzdorp. At TTT Cellars, wine tasting is a personal experience with the owners.

Restaurant

TTT Cellars offer a selection of cheese and meat boards, which comes with dried fruit, nuts and homemade bread. There is a small shop where visitors can purchase preserves and local crafts. For families with children, there is a small play area, and you can bring your dog along.
