Windfall Wines

Winery Description

Location and History

Located in Robertson, South Africa, Windfall is situated at Agterkliphoogte Retreat. The farm benefits from the region's unique terroir, characterized by red Karoo soils and limestone, which contribute to the quality and flavor of the wines produced. The seed of Windfall was planted in 2002 by Robert Alexander, who envisioned owning a farm inspired by a memorable drink with a friend. With a passion for wine that has grown over the years, Robert started by producing a single Sauvignon Blanc. His dedication has led to the expansion of the farm's offerings to include a total of nine wines, a Method Cap Classique, and a potstill brandy. The winemaking philosophy emphasises minimal interference in the vineyards, showcasing the terroir's characteristics and ensuring that the essence of the land is reflected in each bottle.

Wine Tasting

The wine tasting experience at Windfall is designed to highlight the farm's commitment to quality and the unique characteristics of its vineyards. Visitors can sample a range of wines, including Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc. Each varietal offers a distinctive flavour profile, with the red wines featuring notes of plum and raspberry, while the whites present delightful hints of honey and citrus. The Sauvignon Blanc is particularly notable for its brisk acidity, lime, and tropical fruit flavours, culminating in a delicate finish enhanced by white oak. Windfall strives to craft exceptional wines that cater to the diverse interests of wine enthusiasts, maintaining a focus on continuous improvement and the integrity of the winemaking process.
